Dr. Liwei LU (Hong
Kong)
After graduating in Medicine at Jiangsu University, Dr.
Lu worked as a lecturer in anatomy and histology at the
same medical school and then went to McGill University for
his PhD studies in 1993. After receiving his PhD in 1997,
he continued his postdoctoral research at University of
Toronto. He joined the University of Hong Kong in 2000 and
has been a tenured Associated Professor since 2007.
Dr. Lu¡¦s research has been focusing on lymphocyte development
and its dysregulation in autoimmune diseases. Using an
animal model for human rheumatoid arthritis, his laboratory
is developing novel strategies for targeting TNF family
cytokines in treating autoimmune arthritis. He received
the David Rae Memorial Award from Leukemia Research Fund
of Canada in 2000 and Young Investigator Award from Hong
Kong Society for Immunology in 2003. He was awarded the
Faculty Teaching Award at University of Hong Kong in 2008.
Since 2007, he has been serving as the Chairman of Hong
Kong Society for Immunology. Dr. Lu has published more
than 50 research papers in leading immunology and rheumatology
journals including Nature immunology, PNAS, Blood, Journal
of Immunology and Arthritis & Rheumatism.
