Prof. Ferdinand C BREEDVELD (The Netherlands)

Professor Dr Ferdinand Breedveld received his medical degree from Leiden University in 1975. Professor Breedveld received his training in internal medicine (between 1977 and 1982) and in rheumatology (between 1982 and 1985) at the University Hospital Leiden.

Between 1975 and 1977, Professor Breedveld was a Medical Officer in the Royal Dutch Navy. In 1985, he was a junior faculty member at Harvard Medical School, Beth Israel Hospital, Boston, USA. In 1987, he joined Leiden University as an Associate Professor of Medicine and between 1989 and 2006, Professor Breedveld was Professor of Medicine and Head of the Department of Rheumatology. From 1999 to 2006, he was also Chairman of the Department of Medicine. Professor Breedveld is currently Chairman of the Board of Leiden University Medical Centre.

Professor Breedveld is a member of the Dutch Society of Rheumatology, the Dutch Society of Internal Medicine, and the Dutch Society of Immunology. He is past-President of the European League Against Rheumatism.
